If you're anxious about sending plants via courier, we get it! Here's our steps for delivering a happy and healthy plant.
1. Choosing the delivery service
We'd always suggest sending plants First Class to avoid unnecessary delays. You can use the Post Office Price Finder to see how much this will cost for your size/weight parcel, so you know how much to charge a buyer.
Alternatively, use a courier so you don't even need to leave the house. My parcel delivery compares many courier services (including Hermes, Parcel Force and DPD) and provides quotes to get you the best price. They’ve also got a handy updates page which outlines how services are being affected by Covid-19, in case you're concerned about any delays.
2. Package your plants properly
There are loads of ways to package plants, but we loved Rose Hardy's tips.
Top tips for packaging:
Wrap the pot in a compostable bag to keep soil and water in. Send it damp, not wet - the extra weight will cost you!
Place it in a reused cardboard box, holding it in place with canes.
Reuse any suitable material to fill the extra space, like tissue paper, loose fill, loo roll card or cut up egg boxes.
Write “Live Plants” large on the box and arrows to indicate the right way up for your plant.
Pierce a small hole or two in the box for ventilation.
3. Delivering your plants
If you're using a courier, you'll need to book delivery ahead. Go to their website to book directly, or use My parcel delivery to find one.
We recommend only sending plants on Mondays or Tuesdays, so that they have the whole week to arrive and don’t end up in storage over the weekend.
